search Lao Tzu’s words:
silence reverberating –
to find his meaning!
those who speak don’t know; those who know keep silent; these are Lao Tzu’s words you say; but if they mean Lao Tzu knew; why did he speak five thousand words
Pai Chu Yi, quoting the Tao-te-ching, in Bill Porter, 1993, Road To Heaven, Encounters With Chinese Hermits, Rider Books
The paradox is, of course, that (we think) we need Lao Tzu’s words to find his meaning; how can we have the silence necessary to undertake our search, if his words interrupt that very silence? The silence reverberates to emphasize his absence.
