A Gift (on our going separate ways)

Oh! There you are look – little flea!

It seems we found each other – rather you found me!

But before you go and ‘fill your boots’

I’m going to have to ‘throw you oot’!

Then before you – find: the big wide world

And though your heart will be forever churled

Know that I will cherish your fond memory –

And the little red keepsake just below my knee!

The Middle-aged Ninja

I live on your road

and walk down your street

but when I walk along

I just watch my feet

just like you

so that I blend in

so you’d never guess

the world I live in.

And in plain sight

just like each tree

I have obvious

Not in shadows

but in sunlight gold

though it could be said

that I am far too old:

In the park

I sit upon the swings

or upon the bench

letting my mind sing

Then with my children

playing at their games

will walk tight-rope

across the climbing frame

then from rock to rock

will I jump and hop

look carefully for

in mid-air I’ll stop!

And the leaves that –

are blowing on the breeze

and the flying birds

will also freeze –

then carry on

as if with no care

but now I am standing

over there!

Now the kids come running

wanting tea

they hold my hand

I am back being ‘me’

then as the sunlight

is growing old

and cold black shadows

creeping – lengthen bold

encourage them

despite the fall

to walk along

the old stone wall

for where is there

not to be found

for the whole world is

just a big playground!

Whistling Ninja

I walk among you

But only few can see

The golden threads

That constitute all:

You – and me

And each of them

Hums its own

Fever pitch,

Emits spectra of colour

That evade the rich

Weave tapestries then –

Our lives intertwine

In mysterious ways

Who would know

Should they be divine?

In the shadows I play

And on the winds ride

But when it comes to

Bright light –

I would rather hide!

Written for my wordpress profile

Like a corpse I lie here in state

Just staring at the ceiling with hate

But the only sound in my mind

Is the howling of winds so unkind

As my eyes slide down to my nose

My vision pales out – to snows

And into the mattress I think

My body is starting to sink

Though my body is laden, as lead

There’s an exit doorway – my head

And it leads out into the wilds

Where in bright snows stands just a child

A gentle smile – spirits lift!

As chill winds toy with spin-drift

Over creaking, compacting layers

In the kingdom of the Ice-Bear

As crystals scatter and hiss

The figure is lost in the mists

Just standing – there’s no need to grope

Abandoning all, even hope –

But welcomes the pervasive calm

A kiss, as gentle as balm

Embraced by the enduring cold

Now the boy shall never grow old

Now snows silently fill in his tracks

As with the coming of ice my heart cracks

As Clear As Ever

On the plane of my bed

I am pegged out for the crows

But in the sky, Ravens wheel

Into threads of cloud

And out again

To soar into the winds

Of the mountain foreslope

Watching the landscape shrink

Just a footprint below –

Beneath my pillow lies a well

Within dark confines

Blackly lie

Calm crystal waters, still

See – snowy mountain peaks

As clear as ever

The cold mountain air

Over the peaty landscapes I soar

A twisted tree stands alone

Throwing its shade upon the path

The last of its kind

Before the bare open hills

Where the winds intertwine

With innumerable peaks
